A video link to Canberra provided Senator Nick Sherry, Senator Guy Barnett and  journalist Michelle Grattan with an opportunity to provide up-to-the-minute comment on the budget headlines. Local presenters Graeme Wells (economist - UTAS) and tax specialist KPMG partner Michael Hine provided expert commentary on the economic outcomes and tax issues within the budget.

The function was attended by approximately 230 guests  from the local business community.

Following the   breakfast, a budget summary session was hosted by KPMG for approximately 120 senior  students and teachers from secondary colleges based in Launceston. This group was also provided with a budget update from Senator Barnett, Graham Wells and Michael Hine with a particular emphasis on relevance to their studies.  The students questions were well prepared and obviously asked from a young person’s perspective.  The success of this event and the pro-activeness of the colleges encourages the partners at KPMG to provide an ongoing event for the students in the region.
